Solar Business Workshop - Retail/Commercial/Industrial

Your feedback whether you have solar or not, believe in solar or not is valuable and we need to hear from you.

Zero Emissions Noosa Inc has been funded by the Noosa Shire Council to assist the Noosa community to reduce CO2 emissions in line with the council’s decision to reach Zero Emissions for Noosa by 2026.

Zero Emission Noosa is using the council funding to research the barriers that businesses face when they seek to reduce their electricity costs and increase profits by installing renewable energy.

Once we have identified the top barriers to renewable energy, the second part of the Repower Noosa project is to develop ways to eliminate those barriers and provide that independent information back to the businesses that need it.

To correctly understand the barriers you face we need to talk to you and so we are holding two workshops with the assistance of the Noosaville Business Association.

The first workshop is targeting Tourism accommodation and related businesses and the second is for retail, commercial, & industrial businesses. If you are unable to attend the most appropriate workshop you are welcome to join us at the other workshop.

The workshops will be held at the CQ University campus on Goodchap St. Enter the driveway closest to the roundabout and head to the building 2nd on the right down the driveway. We will be in the boardroom which is on the first floor behind the lift.

Campaigns Workshop - Roadmap to 100% Renewable Electricity in Noosa

The Roadmap has landed!  Our objective is to make sure Noosa produces more clean electricity than the total amount used for all purposes.  The Roadmap is our tool kit and guide.

Read the entire Roadmap document here

Read the nine page summary here

Now that we have the tools, we need to get going on specific local campaigns.  At the workshop we'll introduce the main campaigns and invite you to decide which of them you want to work on.  We'll get straight into it, dividing into campaign groups to review what we have so far and decide how to proceed.

Campaigns already underway

We have identified the following campaigns:

Major consumers:  work with the ten largest electricity users in Noosa.

Business:  focus on small & medium size businesses.

Tourism:  work with tourism operators to reduce their electricity consumption and improve profitability.

Solar Cluster:  work with solar installers to keep the installation work local and ensure top quality service to end users.

Education:  work with the special opportunities and special challenges of optimising efficiency and electricity generation in the school and wider education sector.

Renters and Landlords:  develop and implement tools to enable landlords and renters to benefit from energy efficiency and rooftop solar.

Low Income Households:  work on the policy and investment challenges to deliver access to cheap and clean electricity to all.

Community Buildings:  work with groups and with the Noosa Council to make the most of council-owned premises used by a wide variety of community groups.

Cooran Earth Rights:  the town has been declared coal and gas free.  We're working with them to be a 100% renewable electricity community.

Academic ZEN:  Researchers from CQUniversity are working in partnership with ZEN to help to achieve the zero emissions goal

JOIN US ON THE DAY

Note that all are welcome, but we expect that all who attend will have some familiarity with Zero Emissions Noosa and particularly with the Roadmap.  A careful reading of the nine-page summary would be a good start.

Bring your ideas and your creativity, but be prepared to get to work.  This won't be a day devoted to great ideas about what other people should do, but rather about your commitment to specific campaigns.

MODELLING PARAMETERS

Suggestions for changes from preliminary modelling done for community workshops:

Population - Base & Stretch as per Noosa Council estimates
2016 - 53,638        2026 - 58,164     % increase = 8.44%

Electric Vehicle Uptake - there was discussion of this during community consultation week.  Do we want this changed?
Base = 10%       Stretch = 20%

Rob will initiate the final round of modelling based on these updates.  His modeller (Jose) will also package up the modelling scenarios, so that we can refine, etc as long as we have access to the right skills (Python)

ROADMAP COMMENTS & FINAL? REPORT

All comments must be completed by Friday 6th July.   Comments must be made against the web version of each chapter.
We have committed to Rob Passey that we will consolidate all of the feedback.
Volunteers are needed to produce this consolidated feedback which will be sent to Rob by Fri 13 July.
Rob will update the report by 20 July, assuming the modelling updates can be completed in time.

The final report is now scheduled for Fri 31 August.  We expect that changes would generally relate to the appendices containing the Noosa program outlines (Proformas - see below)

ROADMAP WORKSHOP EVENT - Sat 11 August @ CQUniversity

Rob will be back in Noosa from 8th August.  A Council session is scheduled for Thu 9th August, to present the updated report and seek Council commitment to whatever level is possible for recommended programs that involve Council.
The Saturday session is currently scheduled from 1pm.  The intent of this workshop will be for attendees to engage by reviewing, enhancing & prioritising the localised Noosa programs we would like to see up and running.
Planning and promotional help is required for this event.

Repower Noosa Industry Cluster Meeting - April 11 2018

There has been a little gap in meetings while we bedded down the grant application to the Council to fund the Cluster’s development needs.

This has now been submitted so I thought it would be good to get together, discuss the scope of the application and get your feedback .
The meeting is being held in Lecture room 1 in the Central Queensland University complex on Goodchap St in Noosaville. From the roundabout take the first driveway and turn right ¾ the way down. The entrance is halfway along the building on the left (opposite the daycare entrance) and the lecture is on the first floor behind the stairs.
We will also cover the ZENoosa Roadmap project. Dates have now been set for the first round of consultation and we need to discuss if the cluster would like to have a session of its own to discuss the reports direction and provide input. If so, Monday 30 April at 5:00pm is the time available.
Other ongoing agenda items include:
1. Feedback on what we have done to date – good/bad/need to change direction etc
2. Cluster membership – open to all?, membership criteria, are members part of a centre of excellence and if so, what are the standards?, membership cost etc
3. Contribution commitment required for the website and case studies.
4. Thoughts on the draft website – anything missed, should be done differently, installation database
5. Other thoughts and suggestions as to how the cluster can work to increase the “pie”
